How do I Disable the “Trash” folder in Squirrel mail?

Q: How do I Disable the “Trash” folder in Squirrel mail, so when I delete an item it is just deleted?

A: If you are receiving the error message in Squirrel mail that looks something like this:

ERROR: Could not complete request.
Query: COPY 15 "INBOX.Trash"
Reason Given: [ALERT] You exceeded your mail quota.

You may want to configure your Squirrel mail client to not use the "Trash" folder. The way that IMAP works, is when you place something in the trash, the client will try to copy the item there first then delete the item from your inbox. So for a moment there will be two copies of your message on the server. You can disable this Squirrel mail safeguard by following these steps:

1. Log into the Squirrel Mail client.
2. Select "Options"
3. Select "Folder Preferences"
4. Under the "Special Folder Options" section, you will find a drop down selection menu next to the text "Trash Folder" From this menu select "[Do not use Trash]".
5. Click Submit.

You have now configured your Suirrel mail client to not use the trash folder option. So now when you delete a message, your message will be deleted and not copied to a trash folder first.
