Section two: Delivering Spam Messages to a Specific Folder

Our recommendation would be to configure Spam to be delivered to a separate email folder called “Spam”.  This keeps such messages from cluttering the Inbox.

Section One:

First, the folder needs to be created if it does not already exist.  If the folder already exists please skip to Section Two of this document.

This can be done from within Horde, or a regular email client if using the IMAP protocol.  To do this from within Horde click on the link for the “Mail” category in the left navigation menu.

The top navigation menu should now contain an icon named “Folders”.  When the “Folders” link is clicked:

The “Folder Navigator” screen will load.  From the “Choose Action” pulldown menu, select the “Create Folder” option.

A pop-up window will prompt for the name of the new folder.  Enter “Spam”, without the quotes.

Section Two:

Now that the folder exists, the email system needs to be instructed to automatically deliver messages tagged as Spam to the folder.

Expand the “Mail” category in the left navigation menu.

Click on the link for the “Filters” option.

From the “Existing Rules” screen that loads click the “New Rule” button.

The name of the rule can be anything; it is merely for convenience.  In the section that reads “For an incoming message that matches:”, leave the option “All of the following” checked.

From the “Select a field” pulldown menu choose the option “X-Spam-Flag”.

Leave the middle field as the option “Contains”, and type the word “Yes”, without the quotes, in the text box. The “Case Sensitive” option should remain unchecked.

Choose “Deliver to folder:” in the “Do this:” pulldown menu, and choose “Spam” in the “Select target folder” pulldown menu.

Click the “Save” button.  The new filter rule is now in place.  When a message is tagged as Spam by our system, it will automatically be delivered to the folder named “Spam”.  Next we will look at how to adjust some settings to help determine what is, and is not, Spam.
